URINARY INCONTINENCE

What is Urinary Incontinence?

Urinary incontinence is the involuntary leakage of urine, meaning you urinate when you don’t intend to. It is a common and often embarrassing condition that affects both men and women — especially after childbirth, surgery, or with age.

Common Causes:

  • Weak pelvic floor muscles

  • Nerve damage

  • Prostate issues in men

  • Childbirth or menopause in women

  • Overactive bladder

  • Neurological disorders (e.g., Parkinson’s, stroke)

Types of Urinary Incontinence:

  • Stress Incontinence:
Leakage occurs during coughing, sneezing, laughing, or lifting.

  • Urge Incontinence:
Sudden, strong urge to urinate — often with little warning.

  • Overflow Incontinence:
Bladder doesn’t empty completely; leads to continuous dribbling.

  • Mixed Incontinence:
Combination of stress and urge incontinence.

Symptoms You Shouldn’t Ignore:

  • Sudden urge followed by leakage

  • Frequent urination

  • Waking up at night to urinate

  • Leaking urine during physical activities

  • Difficulty starting or stopping urine flow
